The AGM includes the election of the CARA Executive Committee for 2021-22.We have not been able to hold social gatherings, but other activities, such as participation in the Ealing Conservation Review, response to Planning concerns, attendance at virtual meetings on behalf of CARA, have been busier than usual; also we have sent more frequent email circulations including borough-wide information. The Committee is greatly under-strength with only six members, some covering more than one role, and some roles needing a second person. It meets formally six times during the year, with informal meetings as needed
New Committee members are urgently needed, and we seek nominations for election at the AGM.
The AGM will be followed by a talk from Geoff Payne, entitled:
Somewhere to Live – a review of five decades of international experience.
Geoff is a CARA member and an international housing and urban development consultant. He has taken advantage of the lockdown to reflect on a career of 5 decades working in all regions of the world on issues of affordable housing and urban development and will discuss some of the key issues (inequality, the climate crisis and cultural aspects) and some of the progressive and practical examples that can help resolve them. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion.
This information is from https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/details/interactive-map, and is for seven days to the 4th March. White is less than 3, the blue is 100-199, so a wide discrepancy. Light green, 10-49, dark green 50-99.
News of the CARA Business Discount Scheme:
- Mo’s Fisheries has withdrawn from the scheme, so CARA members can no longer request a discount there.
- Ealing Common Nando’s is concentrating on discount offers to medical and emergency personnel, and has temporarily suspended its membership, so CARA members can no longer request a discount there, but this may change some time in the future.
We at St Martin’s Church are having a fundraising campaign to get our church ‘Back on Track’. As for many other people and businesses, the pandemic has hit us hard, and so we are looking at various fundraising activities to enable us to keep a spiritual presence in this local area.
As part of the fundraising we are having an online auction on Sunday December 6th at 3pm with various items to be auctioned including holiday accommodation, tea for two at the Savoy Hotel, food hampers, dinners out, signed WASPS souvenirs as well as promises to do the gardening etc. To get a catalogue ring Camilla Reid on 020 8992 3389 or email email@example.com. Bids can also be placed with Camilla in advance.
I hope you can support the auction, have some fun and you might pick up an unusual Christmas present in these times when it is not so easy to get out.
Wishing you every blessing,
Rev Julia Palmer,

The future of heritage buildings in Gunnersbury Park
The recent restoration of a number of buildings in Gunnersbury Park, such as the Large Mansion and its transformation into a modern museum, excluded several other important heritage buildings in the park, in particular the Small Mansion and Stables Block, both of which are on the Historic England buildings at risk register.
For more information, and a link to a questionnaire on the future of these buildings, see an article on the Ealing Today site.
