Introduction
This section of the website brings together the material we have gathered about the history of the Creffield area from various sources.
A good introduction to the history of the area is proved in the transcript of a talk given to CARA in 2011 by Dr Jonathan Oates (Ealing Borough’s Archivist & Local History Librarian), titled “The Creffield Area Story: 10,000BC to the Twentieth Century “. This includes lot of fascinating information about the area including the developers, bomb damage and former residents:
Further Information about Ealing’s history in general is available on the Around Ealing website.
Archaeology
As mentioned in the Creffield Area Story, a large number Stone Age flints were found in the late nineteenth century by John Allen Brown, in the area where Creffield Road is today. They were initially found at the north east junction of Twyford Avenue and Creffield Road, when builders were excavating sand and gravel for building works in 1885-86, with later finds between Montague Gardens and Twyford Avenue, and Haberdashers School.

For enthusiasts, further details are available in this study which also contains details on the local geology –a band of silt overlying the Lynch Hill Gravels-old terraces of the River Thames: Scott, Rebecca (2006) The early middle Palaeolithic of Britain; origins, technology and landscape, Durham theses, Durham University.
